The I want Quick Wins Dilemma: Stop Saving Start Changing

The “Quick Wins Only” Scenario As I was working as an Industrial Project Manager times (budget that is) went rough in the 2001-2002. Yearly budget were cut down and Telco project portfolio were fixed to “Quick Wins Only” mode. To reduce ongoing projects was the only way forward. The goal at the time were to find projects which had short payback time or ROI and high business value. Today, many businesses are again looking for Quick Wins Only mode with their web 2.0 strategy. The ICT project portfolios is scaled down, systems and people are outsourced. The ” We are here to Save Money Only” Scenario The consolidated international ICT MNC’s corporations have best offers to do just that. Scaling down services, shutting down services teams is easy. All things great I hear Consultant replacing CIO & team whispering ? The “Change we believe in” Scenario At the same time, many of the end-Customers and your partnering value chain companies are moving rapidly to use of new Web 2.0 applications Paradigm as their main IT strategy. And The Winners Prize goes to.. The growth figures of user accounts and traffic for the social networking / web 2.0 services is rapid. As always some services do better than others. Facebook reaching MySpace in Traffic etc. shows that web 2.0 world is evolving. The “I am here feeling OK” Scenario F.e. in the Twitter there are already many of us that keep up their activity streams up to the minute and organize our working life using these new tools and Paradigm Only. The Paradigm Shift with years of learning curve Twitter / Myspace / Twine based learning, communities, personal relations, public relations, and finally consumerism in its all forms IS the way of doing business for us.There is no quick wins but Paradigm Shift with years of learning curve. The Internet 1.0 relief The Internet 1.0 home pages is not what your potential customers want. They want your presence. To solve their project questions, help with that report, write that business plan, rewrite that code. Be part of that new product launch, have a lunch with discussions of future of web, participate in virtual seminar, etc. Really every business aspect has its own web 2.0 service somewhere in the websphere. We need your web page as sign of trustful company. We want to give Feedback securely. We need your business blogging to understand your company strategy, ongoing projects, Partner offerings, and other news information. When will your company start to focus again to customers, not enterprise resource planning, or outsourcing? Building new teams from the people that are already in the Digital Natives level living with Presence Information is the challenge. Are your company in or out? Presence Information is important. You need to know whereabouts of your customers, friends, competitors etc. How this can be reached without learning to walk first? Secondly the need of transforming business strategies, business models, value networks etc. With Web 2.0 and Semantic Web thing is like with any major ICT Infra Area upgrade. You and your people need to learn the new Paradigm of Thinking first. Then there is considerable Testing Period. What are the actual customers needs and how to address them? Semantic Web, but also Business Blogging is now at the Testing Period Phase for Lifetime Oy Ltd. From 2005 on I have been studying Social Networking, Business Blogging, and How to create semantic network through tools like Technorati, del.icio.us and Digg. Today I think some things start to go semantically to their right places. The Offering of Lifetime Oy Ltd. is clarifying every day. Thank you for being active friend. E-Commerce is important part of Social Networking. Every connection is a marketing relation and may lead in to possible Sales increase in the future. From the database update to the Status line update. Many times I meet Finnish Managers who have found me delivering quick win projects for them in previous years. They ask ” Can you explain how Lifetime Oy Ltd. could make things better? I don’t understand how to glue this to what we have at the office today.” The problem is how to help customers to leap over the learning curve and show profitable bottom line to invest R &D and projects money to Web 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 projects. The uggly version is: ” Change or Die ” (Or retire) The nice version: ” Your Customers are already in the Twitter and Myspace. Where is your business?” The Truthful version: ” Entering web 2.0 services business platform needs lot of hard work. Prepare to invest money to stay in the picture in coming years”
